Barth Files for State Senate Race

LITTLE ROCK – On Monday afternoon, Jay Barth officially became a candidate for State Senate District 34, filing the necessary paperwork at the State Capitol in Little Rock.

Throughout the campaign, Jay has focused on the importance of bringing people together for the sake of Arkansas’s children and families.

“The citizens of District 34 are certainly diverse, but we share a commitment to create educational opportunities for all Arkansans, from cradle through career, and to create healthy and safe neighborhoods in which to raise families,” he said. “Arkansas is on the cusp of amazing progress as a state, and I want to be part of making the public policies that will help us get there.”

Jay is a professor of political science at Hendrix College in Conway and is known for his expertise on Arkansas state government and public policy.  For more information about Jay’s plans, visit the Issues page.

The Democratic primary election will take place May 18, with early voting beginning May 3.

Together, a Better Arkansas

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I am running for the Arkansas State Senate in 2010 because I am confident that we are at a turning point in our state’s history. We have the real potential to make our state a place where educational and economic opportunities are accessible to all of our citizens. However, I also know that it is only through working together that we will make Arkansas the place we want it to be.

My underlying principle about politics was summed up by U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone, one of my mentors, “Politics is about the improvement of people’s lives. It’s about advancing the cause of peace and justice in our country and the world. Politics is about doing well for the people.” Working with the people of District 34, I want to do well for the people of Arkansas. I am so glad you’re committed to help make that happen.

Sincerely,
